FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DALLAS, TX, May 1, 2000.--Daniel Perez, the son of a Golden Gloves boxer whose lineage dates to the Spanish conquistadors--from whom he says he inherited a "warrior" spirit--is joining a growing battalion of attorneys specializing in intellectual property at the national law firm of Bickel & Brewer, it was announced today by William A. Brewer III. The firm specializes in high-powered, bet-your-business litigation.

For the past four years, Perez has served on the Board of Directors of the Hispanic National Bar Association. At age 41, he is one of the country's leading intellectual property attorneys involved in licensing and litigation programs, leading to settlements and verdicts amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars for clients such as Texas Instruments. Other companies he has represented in patent disputes and other successful intellectual property matters include Ericsson, AMR, Excel Telecommunications, GE Capital Services, Halliburton Energy Services and Compaq Computer Corp.

Perez not only practices, but teaches intellectual property and patent litigation at The University of Texas School of Law. He also has represented The University of Texas System and Baylor College of Medicine.

"Dan is a significant addition to our technology litigation capabilities," Brewer said. "He represents companies vying for leadership in today's new economy. Adding Dan's credentials and skills to our team is exciting," said John Bickel.

Born in Amarillo, TX, the grandson of a migrant worker on one side and on the other, Perez traces his Hispanic ancestry to 1791 in Santa Fe, NM. "The warrior in me comes from my father," said Perez. My dad, "Alex Perez, fought in the ring as a Golden Glover and later became a professional wrestler. He wrestled for 28 grueling years," said Perez, who today wrestles with complex litigation involving intellectual property issues and procurement and licensing of intellectual property.

According to Perez, joining Bickel & Brewer is "an opportunity of a lifetime" as he will work beside someone whom he regards as "a master of law," Bill Brewer. "When opponents see what a formidable group of intellectual property attorneys Bickel & Brewer has amassed, it's going to turn some heads," Perez said.

In l993, Perez started his own "patent boutique" law firm of Warren & Perez in Dallas, which grew from two to 12 attorneys before it merged with Gardere & Wynne, a full-service law firm with 24 attorneys, involved in licensing and general patent issues. Prior to that, Perez practiced complex patent litigation with the worldwide law firm of Jones Day. And earlier still he practiced patent law in San Diego, where he focused on legal issues pertaining to medical devices for such clients as Scripps Fischer Scientific and Warner Lambert.

Active in the Greater Dallas community, Perez is on the Board of Head Start and is a past board member of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of commerce. He also served as chairman of a committee of the Texas Bar seeking opportunities for Hispanics and other minorities in the law profession and is a member of the Federal Judiciary Selection Group involved in assisting the U.s. Texas Senators in the selection of judiciary candidates.

Perez earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech University. He lives in Highland Park with is wife, Sheryl, and their four children.
