Beam Me Up Scottie: William Shatner Arrives to Enliven Laid-Back Key West
With Las Vegas Style Show Friday, June 28th
PR Newswire -- June 5, 2002
KEY WEST,Fla, June 5/PRNewswire/ -- William Shatner (aka Captain
Kirk)
is beaming himself here as a poetic part of the Key West Celebrity Series
that's bringing Las Vegas headliners like Wayne Newton, Joan Rivers, and
Tony
Bennett to the sleepy town. At 8pm on Friday, June 28th, Shatner, best known
for his role as Captain Kirk on the hit television series "Star Trek,"
arrives
in Key West to perform alongside Las Vegas Legend (although he's only 30)
Brian Evans on stage at the San Carlos Institute Theatre on Duval Street.
"This will be Shatner's first public appearance in Key West. I can't
think
of anything more exciting than having Captain Kirk perform live on stage in
Key West," said Brian Evans. "Why bother heading to Las Vegas or Atlantic
City to catch world-class entertainment when you can relax on the island
during the day and enjoy living legends on stage at night? Our Key West
Celebrity Series starting with Wayne Newton has been a huge success and
people
are beginning to fly in or sail their yachts to Key West to catch the show."
Actor, director, author and now musician, William Shatner first achieved
fame on the small screen while starring in the hit television series "The
Twilight Zone", "Star Trek" and "TJ Hooker".
In March 2002, Las Vegas icon Wayne Newton kicked off the Key West
Celebrity Series by sharing the stage with Brian Evans and singing his
signature song "Danke Schoen." Wayne told the Key West audience that
Brian's
move to Key West was, "Las Vegas' loss and Key West's gain!"
Brian Evans, "The Crooner", has performed over 500 shows in Vegas,
headlined at the Desert Inn and the MGM Grand, and has been compared to all
the greats from Frank Sinatra to Tony Bennett. Brian is the only
entertainer
in the Desert Inn's 50-year history to record a live album, "Live at The
Desert Inn." His brainchild Key West Celebrity Series brings Las Vegas
Legends to perform for the first time in Key West including Wayne Newton,
Joan
Rivers, Tony Bennett, Dionne Warwick, Ozzy Osbourne and many more. For
