Olympics-Bound Florida Taekwondo Champ - The 'One-Armed Warrior' - Turns To TransMedia To Find Sponsors
BOCA RATON, Fla., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- TransMedia Group said today it
will help Florida's Taekwondo Champion Daniel Espinosa, internationally known
as the "One-Armed Warrior," to fulfill his dream of competing in the 2004
Olympic Games in Athens.
Palm Beach County's largest public relations firm said it has been
retained to publicize the One-Armed Warrior's life-long quest to compete in
the Olympics. The firm said it will seek corporate sponsors to finance the
Cuban-American amputee's travel expenses as he embarks on a series of
international preliminary competitions leading to the Olympics.
Espinosa was injured in a train accident at age 2 that left him without
his right arm. From age 4, he was drawn to Taekwondo and ever since has
dedicated himself to the sport. He holds the title of Florida Champion and he
is the only Taekwondo fighter in the world who competes with one arm. Despite
his handicap, he continually defeats opponents around the world.
"Daniel's uplifting story will be an inspiration to millions of
handicapped individuals who will see how a strong desire and determination can
overcome any obstacle," said Carolina Lammersdorf, TransMedia's Director of
International Media Relations.
Daniel's fighting valor earned him The Spirit Award in 2002 at the U.S.
Open Taekwondo Championships in Orlando, Florida. He has been the subject of
feature articles in the prestigious Taekwondo Magazine of the U.S.A. Taekwondo
Federation. "It's been a difficult road, but I believe everything in life is
possible when you are passionate and driven," said 30-year-old Espinosa.
Born in Cuba, Daniel came to the U.S. eight years ago. He recently
fulfilled his first dream of becoming a U.S. citizen. He now longs to
represent the U.S. at the Olympics, but first he must compete in preliminary
matches in Germany, Korea and Puerto Rico where he has been invited several
times but, until now, has been financially unable to attend. With the help of
sponsors and publicity, TransMedia hopes to help Espinosa realize his life's
ambition.
Espinosa belongs to U.S. three-time Olympian Juan Moreno's Team Miami. He
coaches and teaches Taekwondo to young people, ages 8-20, and works at the
Miami International Airport.
TransMedia is a full-service, bilingual PR and marketing firm serving
clients worldwide since 1981.
