FORMER ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER SHIMON PERES IS BRINGING NEW YEAR'S MESSAGE OF PEACE ON FRIDAY, JAN. 10 TO BOCA RATON
BOCA RATON, Fla., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres on Friday, Jan. 10 is bringing a New Year's message of peace and solidarity to Boca Raton. The Nobel Prize Winner will speak at a luncheon at the Boca Raton Resort & Club during a two-day visit to South Florida. He is coming to raise money for his foundation, "Keren Peres Le Shalom," to help continue building an infrastructure for peace by and for the people of the Middle East.
"While it's exceedingly difficult to find a fresh start when so many lives and families already have been torn apart in the region, Shimon Peres comes to us as a beacon of hope for peace between Israelis and Palestinians," said TransMedia Group's Vice President of America-Israel Public Relations, Bruria Angel. "He is coming here to deliver a message that may help bring the two sides back to the negotiating table in hopes of a better future," she said.
According to Dr. Ron Pundak, Director General of The Peres Center for Peace, efforts to promote cooperation and dialogue, especially between Israelis and Palestinians, must continue regardless of the political conditions and the enormity of suffering that has occurred on both sides.
"It's hard for many of us to envision a lasting peace in the region when we only catch glimpses of the volatile life inside the State of Israel from the camera's perspective when we turn on the television everyday," says Angel, who served in the Israeli Army before joining TransMedia. "But what we don't see,are the friendships and partnerships that are formed everyday between Israelis and Palestinians, to work on projects like "Peace in Sight" where doctors from both sides are joining forces to gain knowledge and expertise in the areas of pediatric intensive care and Hemato-oncology."
Established in 1996, the Peres Center for Peace's mission is to promote cooperative peace-building programs and projects in the Middle East region in order to advance civil society, economic and social growth and peaceful coexistence. Many of the Center's ongoing programs in medicine and healthcare, agriculture, culture and education are continuing.
Peres will be speaking at 9 AM on Friday (Jan. 10) at the Boca Grove Country Club then at 1 PM at the Boca Raton Resort and Club. Media must bring credentials for this high security event. For more information call Michelle Rosen at (561) 750-9800 x 14.
