What about one for mom and prospective moms? That’s exactly what Kathleen Mascaro wondered when she set about to establishing Fit For a Mom, a women’s club specializing in fitness and wellness from pre-conception to post-natal care. Kathleen’s brainchild, a place where expectant and new mothers can congregate and prepare for their respective roles, recently opened at Boca Raton. Located in Somerset Shoppes at Glades and Lyons Road the center offers yoga, aerobics and belly dancing classes, childbirth education courses, breastfeeding and fertility support groups. Acupuncture, massage therapy, nutritional services and lactation consultants are also available. First time business owner Kathleen Mascaro age 32, brainstormed the idea when she moved to Boca Raton from Pennsylvania had become pregnant and miscarried, only to find there was a lack of support and good advice available for pregnant women and women looking to conceive. “When I became pregnant, I wanted to educate myself. I wanted to know about the best educational materials, diet and exercise programs available. Having moved away from family and friends, I couldn’t find a source of information or the support group I was seeking.” says Mascaro. The sudden death of Mascaro’s grandfather prompted her to realize that life was too short. She left her 9 to 5 job as a director of marketing and started working full-time on networking with fertility and childbirth experts, registered dieticians and massage therapists. She formed a Fit For a Mom advisory panel to determine what was needed and lacking in the market. “Whether you’re looking to conceive or already have, Fit For a Mom is a great guidance and support system.
