World's Top Pool Players Rack 'Em Up as Super Bowl of Pool Premieres at
Seville Sports Palace, Delray Beach


SUMMARY:   The Super Bowl of pool opens today (Dec. 4) when the world's greatest pool players will face each other under the Tiffany lamps of Seville Sports Palace to compete in the Predator UPA Pro Tour Championship 2002. Florida has not seen a world class tournament of this size since 1995. Sanctioned by the United Pool Players Association (UPA), the governing body of mens' professional pool. The tournament is a ranking point event that affects national and world rankings of the pros on tour.

WHO:   The world's top pool players, including Florida's own Buddy Hall, currently ranked #10 in the world; Orlando's Charlie Williams currently ranked #7. Williams made history by being the first ever Asian-American to win a national televised title in the world. Johnny Archer, a 4-time World Champion and also ranked 3-time Player of the Year. Cory Deuel, currently ranked #1 in the world. This 24-year-old sensation hails from Columbus Ohio and won the US Open last year. Nick Varner of Owensboro, KY, a Hall of Famer who has won every major title and still ranked #4 in the world. Ralf Souquet from Manching, Germany ranked #18 -- has just won the US Open this year.

WHAT:   THE PREDATOR UPA PRO TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP 2002

WHERE:   Seville Sports Palace (Formerly Shootersville) 600 N. Congress Ave., Delray Beach (Corner Of Lake Ida Rd., in Lake Ida Plaza)

BACKGROUND:   The Mayor of Delray Beach, David W. Schmidt will open the tournament at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 with the inaugural break shot which will also give fans a chance to challenge the pros for charity to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Editors' Note:   It's the first time that the world class tournament will be held outside of its traditional hotel environment and under the thirty-foot high ceilings of Seville. While not competing in it, Jeanette Lee, the Black Widow, will make appearances and sign autographs throughout the tournament.

Tournament will culminate with UPA Dinner Awards Banquet and Ceremony on December 8 at 8p.m.
