Cruise Ships May Need to Take Extra Steps to Keep Restrooms Disease-Free, Says CEO of Swisher of Southeast Fla.
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Swisher, Inc., a leading
odor control and disease prevention company, today offered the following
recommendations to cruise lines in the wake of outbreaks of viral illnesses at
sea.
According to Warren Pizik, President of Swisher of Southeast Florida,
cruise ships must take the following preventative actions and continue them on
a regular basis:
* Sanitize bathrooms with a strong germicide that kills any bacteria
* Provide antiseptic safeguards such as anti-bacterial soap and sanitary
towels
* Post reminders to employees to wash their hands before leaving a
bathroom
* Keep toilets and toilet seats scrubbed and sanitized
All of these measures will ensure there is no cross-contamination, Pizik
said.
Swisher plans to roll out its land-based services to cruise ships in
response to recent outbreaks of gastrointestinal virus aboard the Holland
America Amsterdam cruise ship sailing out of Fort Lauderdale. "Our advanced
sanitizing methods will insure that bathrooms aboard cruise ships will be
disease-free," said Pizik.
"Why shouldn't people have clean hospital-like conditions in restrooms
anywhere they go? When someone's health is on the line, taking the right
precautions is worth it," says Pizik. The recent outbreak of illness on an
international cruise line underscores the need for disease prevention in
restrooms in all commercial operations whether on land or sea, according to
Pizik.
From drugstores to condos to restaurants to daycares, Swisher uses its
SWAT team method to create a germ-free environment. In their white suits and
masks, the team goes in for what's called the "fogging" process to eliminate
virus and germs including HIV, Salmonella, Staph, the flu, the common cold and
E-coli.
In today's busy environment with so many people using restroom facilities,
it's important to have bathrooms professionally cleaned and certified disease-
free. Pizik recommends that cruise ships use a hospital-grade germicide
called Sporicidin in their restrooms. He says this would be the ultimate
protection against the spread of disease among customers.
Swisher specializes in maintaining restrooms in commercial buildings and
at corporate headquarters and restaurants, insuring they are odor and disease-
free. It has 100 franchises around the world with clients in South Florida
like Eckerd, Applebees, 7-11, Hess Gas Stations, IHOP, and Duffy's.
