TransMedia to Represent Leading Pharmaceutical Company in China; Great Nephew of China's Former Vice Premier to Lead Program

PR Newswire -- November 4, 2002

BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- TransMedia Group said it has been retained by C.P. Freda Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd., one of China's major biopharmaceutical firms, to explore possible markets in the United States. To help in the effort, TransMedia named Alfred Davis Director of Sino-American Publicity. Davis' great uncle, the late Geng Biao, was former Defense Minister and Vice Premier of China.

Founded in 1992, C.P. Freda Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. is the first company in the People's Republic of China to research and develop therapeutic applications of hyaluronate (HA) in ophthalmic, orthopedic and dermatologic medicine. "With some of the world's leading authorities on HA-applications at its helm, C.P. Freda Pharmaceuticals' expertise in this field is unparalleled in China," said Transmedia's Chairman Thomas J. Madden.

A subsidiary of Sino-Biopharmaceuticals, Ltd., the pharmaceutical company produces biomedicines and biochemical injections that aid in corneal surgery and other ophthalmic illnesses. With sales of $45 million in 2001, they have gained leadership in China's fast growing market for eye care medications, achieving nearly 50% growth annually.

Freda Xiao Fei Davis, the pharmaceutical company's founder, said, "Just as it has done for companies in Norway and Israel, TransMedia will help us explore the possibilities of a market in the United States for such products as our "Moisten" eye drops, a top-selling ophthalmic medication in China since 1999. TransMedia's international staff will be an asset in aiding us in developing a Sino-American marketing program."

Alfred Davis, who will serve as TransMedia's liaison to China, said the firm plans to introduce Chinese products to major U.S. distributors with whom TransMedia has close ties -- stemming from when it represented Rexall Sundown and other leading suppliers. "TransMedia will also tap its diplomatic ties to find a bridge to Chinese and American marketing," said Davis, whose great uncle was also the first Chinese Ambassador to Sweden.

Davis, who grew up with his uncle, speaks fluent Mandarin and English and says he plans to use his family connections to expand China's role in both the Asian and American markets.

TransMedia Group is one of Florida's largest independent PR firms, representing clients worldwide since 1981.
