Florida Institute for Periodontics & Dental Implants Provides
Hands-On Experience to Boston University Dental Students

PR Newswire -- January 10, 2002

BOCA RATON, Fla., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/
Future dentists of America are training at the Florida Institute for Periodontics & Dental Implants as part of an intensive program designed to immerse dental students into the world of cutting-edge dentistry.

Students from the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine receive hands-on experience at the Boca Raton practice where they learn the latest techniques in dentistry by assisting in patient treatments, performing office management duties, creating study models and temporary crowns and observing the dynamics of the dentist-patient relationship.

"This is another excellent opportunity for us to pass our knowledge and skills on to the next generation of dentists," said Dr. Jeffrey Ganeles, periodontist and one of the founding partners of the institute. "We enjoy it as much as the students do."

Robert Michaud, a second-year student at Boston University School of Dental Medicine, and his brother Richard Michaud, a first-year student at the dental school, will work side-by-side with the periodontists at the institute who will evaluate their progress throughout the clerkship.

"It's unbelievable here," Robert Michaud said. "The practice is so innovative and open to new ideas. A lot of other practices are stagnant. It's really amazing to see the doctors at work."

The Michaud brothers, both residents of Boca Raton, attended Florida Atlantic University. Their three-month participation in Boston University School of Dental Medicine's Applied Professional Experience Program (APEX) is a part of the curriculum at the dental school and the first of its kind in dental education.

Established under the names of the founding partners in 1961, the newly renamed Florida Institute for Periodontics & Dental Implants has been on the leading edge of its profession for the past 40 years. Its work in periodontics and dental implants is world-renowned, and its consulting services extend to many organizations, corporations and numerous universities.

Partners of the institute are Marvin M. Rosenberg, D.D.S.; Robert L. Holt, D.M.D., Ph.D.; Jeffrey Ganeles, D.M.D. and Frederic Norkin, D.M.D. The practice conducts more than 4,000 surgical procedures annually at offices in Boca Raton and West Palm Beach. Its website, www.perioimplant.com, delivers a wealth of information on dental health.
