Miss Tropic's Yuca Chips Pageant Undeterred By Hurricane Michele;
'The Show Must Go On' 4:00 P.M. at the Clevelander in South Beach
MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- In the path of Hurricane Michele, the Miss Tropic's Yuca Chips pageant will be held outdoors starting at 4:00 P.M., Sunday, today, at the Clevelander in South Beach, "Come Hell or High Water," said the event's producers.
The pageant already postponed once after the September 11th attack will feature 15 contestants who will appear before judges in evening dress and again in bathing suits, said Toni Somma of The Transmedia Group.
In the spirit of "the show must go on," Somma said, "the contestants are determined to go through with the competition, despite the advancing category 3 hurricane. If it's raining too hard, we will probably just do the swimsuit competition."
The event's other sponsors include Joielle Jewelry. The first annual pageant includes contestants walking a runway erected outdoors over the hotel's swimming pool. "So if it blows too hard," said Adrienne Mazzome of The Transmedia Group, "the worst that can happen is we might have one of our girls in the pool, which won't be terrible as she'll be wearing a bathing suit."
The representatives of Acting World are supplying the judges.
