WTC Victim's Widow Says NY Post Headline Gives Wrong Impression She Had to Beg For Funds; 'Adopt a Family' 'Treats Me With Kindness and Sensitivity' And Without Red Tape

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/
A New Jersey woman who was left a widow with four children when her husband was killed in the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attack said today that a headline in Sunday's NY POST conveys the wrong impression about a charity pledging to help her to keep her Basking Ridge, N.J. home.

"I see nothing wrong with a charity trying to aid certain families and identifying them so people can know to whom they're giving," said Cathy Fersini, 34, whose husband, Louis, was a Cantor Fitzgerald bond trader. "It's better than a lot of other charities who are trying to help, but funds are not getting distributed quickly enough to families who need them now.

"The World Trade Center Miracles Foundation's new "Adopt-a-Family" program has treated me with sensitivity and kindness and I see nothing wrong with this well-intentioned effort that identifies families they're helping on their website: www.wtcmf.org. "A headline in Sunday's New York Post unfortunately conveys the wrong impression that I have been forced to beg for support. That is just not true."

"Isn't there room for more than one approach to solving financial problems that victims' families are experiencing?" Mitchell Morrison, the charity's chairman, believes the "adopt-a-family" drive will raise millions. "We figured it was a better way to go than just being another fund out there," Morrison said. "With us, you'll see who the money's going to."
