Delray Beach Mayor Announces Financial Support for Palm Beach Film Festival, but not a Cent for His Hometown Film Festival, Set to Debut March 8

02/27/2006 5:35 AM
In response to the Mayor of Delray Beach today announcing a pledge of financial support for the Palm Beach Festival after the city has failed to support its own fledgling film festival, Delray Beach Film Festival Founder and Director Michael Posner issued the following statement:

"I'm happy that Delray Beach is offering tens of thousands of dollars in financial support to the Palm Beach International Film Festival, but couldn't they spare a few pennies for the hometown Delray Beach Film Festival?

"From the enthusiastic response we have received from filmmakers throughout the world, it is clear that the Delray Beach Film Festival has struck a chord. We have struggled hard to develop what we believe is the right formula with the widest appeal.

"Not only have we chosen the perfect time and place for a world-class event, but we have designed a Film Festival that in tone and style truly meets the needs of filmmakers across the spectrum.

"Regardless of how far apart they are, Film Festivals are all different in style, size and content. Venues tend to mirror their respective locations, but the environment must be one that's right for filmmakers. In that respect, we've scored a direct hit.

"There is no doubt that ours will mirror the hip and casual atmosphere of Delray Beach, which will set it apart from all the other festivals in Florida and throughout the country and will appeal to filmmakers accustomed to a more laid-back, unpretentious locale. Ours will be unmistakably different from Film Festivals in other places, as ours is for the filmmaker, by the filmmaker and dedicated to the filmmaker.

"As you know, this past year was a struggle, yet we were able to launch this inaugural event with great success. We've showcased independent films from throughout the state, country and world to the people of South Florida and well beyond our borders. We've featured films made by novice students in local middle schools to seasoned pros like Roger and Julie Corman.

"I did what I could from my heart to share my passion for film and the love of my hometown, Delray Beach, and home state of Florida, with the entire motion picture community."
