The Industry's Leading Trade Publication, PR WEEK, Announced TransMedia Scored a 'Critical Hit' When It Placed Florida Hair-Transplant Surgeon in 'The Star'
PR WEEK reports in its December issue that a story placed in "The Star" by South-Florida-based TransMedia Group (www.transmediagroup.com) earned its coveted "Critical Hit" recognition.
According to the PR industry's leading trade publication, the story described Dr. Larry Shapiro as one of the leading hair-transplant surgeons based in South Florida.
While Dr. Shapiro is a well-known hair restoration expert in South Florida, TransMedia's objective was to raise his profile across the US by securing placements in national news, lifestyle, and celebrity-driven outlets, said TransMedia's CEO Tom Madden.
According to TransMedia, The Star not only had a very strong national presence and 1.5 million circulation, but a celebrity health and beauty focus, which we felt was the perfect milieu for our client.
TransMedia worked with Dr. Shapiro in creating the Hair IQ Score, which enables him to assign a score to celebrities and other public figures based on the texture, health, body, shine, presentation, and color of their hair.
"We knew it was a terrific news hook and we already had a relationship with the editors at the magazine, so we gave them first crack, sending them a press release that included the Hair IQ scores of several top celebrities," Madden said.
Hair IQ was featured in the "Star Mix" section at the front of the magazine in October. Immediately after the issue hit newsstands, Dr. Shapiro's phones and website started going haywire. He received requests for interviews from as far away as Australia, where a magazine requested his scores for a slate of celebrities they provided.
We then followed our initial outreach with a second release, providing the Hair IQ Score of high-profile politicians such as Christine O'Donnell, Andrew Cuomo, and Carl Paladino. This led to a story on Politico.com, Madden said.

IN HAIR-TIGHT POLITICAL RACES IN NEW YORK AND FLORIDA,
‘HAIR IQ SCORE’ MIGHT JUST DECIDE WHO WINS BY A . . .
Rating Butting Heads Cuomo and Paladino Is Easy, But Florida Gubernatorial Candidate Rick Scott Poses Dilemma For Dr. Larry Shapiro’s Hair IQ Score. How Do You Rank Baldness?
BOCA RATON, FL.--According to Dr. Larry Shapiro’s Hair IQ Score, the more you have and the closer it comes to a wave perfect Ronald Reagan “10” might just give you the edge you need to win a hair-tight political race.
In New York, Paladino has slight lead over Cuomo by a point on Hair IQ Score, with a “margin of hairror” of 2. But what do you do when one of the candidates in the tightest of gubernatorial races is bald?
Since hair transplant surgeon Dr. Shapiro doesn’t want to insult someone who could very well be the next governor in his home state (and maybe a future client), he has elected to do the politically correct thing by assigning Scott an ‘N/A’ for “Not Applicable.”
Dr. Shapiro recently announced Hair IQ Scores (www.hairiqscore.com) for celebrities, but now turns his hair-splitting analysis to politics, which just might determine “out combs,” said Tom Madden, CEO of TransMedia Group, known for its hair-spinning publicity (www.transmediagroup.com).
“By focusing on factors such as texture, health, body, shine, presentation and color, Dr. Shapiro is making us look at politics and celebrities in a whole new way,” said Madden.
Democrat Alex Sink’s sultry brunette bob reached a score of 7 and in the New York Governor’s Race, Paladino’s short, styled, but graying mane scored him an impressive 8, over Cuomo’s 7.
In Illinois, Republican Mark Kirk scores a 7, just one point under Democrat Alexi Giannoulias, an 8. Both Kirk and Giannoulias have thick, rich, brunette toned tresses, the right image for political success!
In the New York Senate Race, Democratic candidate, Kirsten Gillibrand scores hairs above Joe DiGuardio, the Republican candidate. Gillibrand’s short, feminine, blonde hairstyle scored a near perfect 9, whereas DioGuardio’s middle brown colored short and professional male cut puts him at only 5.

So instead of “As Maine goes, so goes the Nation, it might be as mane goes,” said Madden.
Doctor Who Developed 'Hair IQ Score' Names Celebrities With Best and Worst Hair
Topping the list: Ellen DeGeneres, Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Aniston
Don't pull your hair out on this one, but what celebrities have the best and worst hair?
According to the new "Hair IQ Score" (www.hairiqscore.com) developed by a medical doctor and prominent hair transplant surgeon, rooted at the top are Ellen DeGeneres, Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Aniston, each scoring 9 out of a possible 10.
Bringing up the follicle rear are Lindsey Lohan and David Letterman and of course, that perennial hair apparent for "worst hair" title, Donald Trump.
The Hair IQ Score, developed by a team of experts led by hair restoration and transplant surgeon Doctor Larry Shapiro, is a total of ratings along the following criteria: health, shine, body, texture, color, amount and presentation of hair.
Also scoring near the top were Kim Kardashian, earning a Hair IQ Score of 9 and George Clooney, an 8. Scoring among the lowest were Nicolas Cage, 3, and Mel Gibson, 2. None of the celebrities rated scored a 10.
The Hair IQ Score is a form of a hair IQ standing for Ideal Quotient as hair is probably a celebrity's most identifiable feature, said Dr. Shapiro, who has performed over 11,000 micro-minigraft/follicular unit hair restoration surgery procedures and was the first doctor in the Southern U.S. to specialize in "micro-mini grafts" developing his hair treatment to a state of art procedure.
"When you see Jennifer Aniston, it's almost impossible not to get caught up in the beauty of her hair. And you might say the opposite about celebrities like The Donald, whose hair has become almost a ludicrous logo," he said.
Dr. Shapiro notes many celebrities are constantly on weight loss, body building or other fitness programs that often conflict with proper hair care and some muscle building or rejuvenating supplements like testosterone or human growth hormone actually can lead to hair loss.
To combat this, he recently launched a line of Help Hair™ (www.helphair.com) products including a vitamin rich, hair-friendly nutritional protein supplement shake serving as an adjunct for weight loss, muscle development programs, which are good for bodies, but bad for hair. "Why lose hair when you lose weight?" he asks.
Dr. Shapiro's products sold in Whole Foods are the first ever designed to stop hair loss and promote healthier, better looking hair. Besides a shake are vitamins, shampoo and conditioner.
